IYT: a holistic approach to teaching yoga...

Instead of joining a systematic program, how about creating one that works just for you and where you are lotusnicolenow in your body, mind, heart, and soul at this moment of life. Founder of Integrative Yoga Therapy, Joseph LePage writes "I wanted to create a training program with the focus on Yoga as a healing art which would be student centered, non-dogmatic and in alignment with the latest approaches to teaching, while remaining deeply rooted in the vast treasury of wisdom within the Yoga tradition." Certified in the IYT method since 2002, my teaching practice has become a strong process of discovering which yoga poses, breath work, practices, etc. work for each individual.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is the classical Indian system of physical cleansing and purification. The practice emphasizes alignment and form, core postures, yogic breath, and meditation. Students explore a variety of yogic philosophies and quickly develop greater flexibility through detailed attention to body awareness. This system was first brought to the west as early as the 1920's and is growing in popularity still today.

Ashtanga-vinyasa yoga & the primary Series

One way to practice Hatha Yoga is by using the Ashtanga-Vinyasa Yoga system and more specifically, what's called The Primary Series. There are 6 main series in the traditional practice as it is taught today in it's hometown of Mysore, India. Developed by Sri K. Pattahbi Jois, The Primary Series consists of 75 basic poses infused with Vinyasa - one of three basic concepts that are central to Jois' teachings. For the athletic yogi - this yoga purifies, cleanses, and rejuvenates the mind, body, and spirit. Our beloved Guruji/Sri K Patthabi Jois taught this yoga every day for over 63 years of his life, spreading his legacy throughout the world.
